Well they say you need to stick with at least 1200 calories for health. If you go lower often your body start to hold onto the calories you eat. Do you workout? I will say be choosey about your calories. Stick to chicken, fish, turkey and shrimp. These are lower in calories and less fat than red meat. Make it a point to load up on veggies. Very low calories but will fill you up.

Mornings you can try egg whites and fruit or oatmeal. turkey bacon
Lunch a salad with a bit of low fat cheese, low on the dressing and lots of veggies. Add skinless chicken breast or fish.
Dinner can be roasted chicken, fish, or shrimp. Also veggies.
Snacks can be chickpeas, broccoli and carrots with lowfat ranch, fresh fruit
Skinny cow frozen ice cream/ Weight watchers ice cream
Low fat yogurt
Drink plenty of water. Aim for 64-128 oz water a day. Good luck! Hope it helps

Hey, i know exactly how you feel, i'm 5ft 2 and a similar weight as well, i've been trying SO hard to loose weight, went down to 1200 calories....same as you and nothing happened :S
I'm currently on weight watchers, i don't know if it's just a UK thing...but i've been on it for 2 weeks now (not long i know...) and each week i've lost 6lbs! it's probably just because it's the first few weeks and my body's getting used to it, and it will slow down, but right now it's working so well :)
seriously consider it if ur still not loosing!

Stick to 1200 calories a day. Or if you feel more comfortable do 1100-1160. Anything lower honestly your body will just go into starvation mode. AND  use those calories wisely. Stay away from calorie filled beverages, only consume water or zero calorie drinks. That way you have more calories to spend on meals. Also make sure u are fitting in work outs atleast 3 times a week. The weight should start to come off.

Yurika gives a lot of good examples of what foods you should eat. Some ideas to keep in mind:

- If you must eat high calorie/ junk food do it in the morning. You have the rest of the day to burn it off

- Better yet, have a BIG breakfast with eggs, toast, cereal, whatever, just skip orange juice, syrup, donuts, other sugary things(it will f*ck up ur blood sugar making you sleepy and hungry)

- Find an exercise you Loooooooove! Try just walking, dancing, watch exercise shows on tv, workout videos on youtube, etc, etc. Do it as much as you can. Treat it like any other hobby.

-You can lose weight if you dont exercise. Just watch your diet and be aware of how active you are during the day. If you are realllllllly really lazy then you will need a 1,100 cal diet or w/e of healthy stuff. If you are busy and active but feel hungry all the time you probably arent eating the right kind of food and may need 1,500 cals or more

-******finally!!!*****

it took me so long to learn this ;(

+eat chicken and tuna instead of red meat
+drink water!!!!!!!!! Have a glass of water with all other drinks and meals eventually you will love it
+learn to read nutritional labels
+learn serving sizes!
+Watch your sugar intake, it is supposed to be 40 GRAMS a day but you dont see a daily percentage on nutritional labels. A candy bar is 40g, orange juice is 28g a cup, soda has 40g or more. You are probably eating 10x or more your daily amount of sugar, its normal in our american diet and rarely mentioned :(
+get active somehow! Use your body while ur young and it still works

wowwwwww long post srry if it comes out weird i am using my ipod

i lost 150 pounds in '06-07 and have kept it off. Hope this helps Disgurl and others <3

Clap Wow Babygurl....That's Fantastic..Clap

And you kept it off..Clap  Can you give me some advice on how you started and what protocol did you follow?  I need to lose 40lbs for health reasons and 50 for vanity Embarrassed.  However, I want something that I can follow that will change my eating patterns.  Of course I'm a carb-abholic .  And can't get past the induction on Atkins....Should I just put on my Big Girl Panties and Do It...or is there a moderate plan that you used.  Any help will be appreciated.
TIA

Hey im glad i could help :) i know what you mean by wanting to change eating habits and getting over food addictions, lol for me its chocolate, i really dont know much about carbs but i will do my best to give you relevant advice

Learning portion sizes and Understanding nutritional labels was a huge benifit for me. A cup is about 1/2 a coffee mug. Your normal drinking glass is like 2 or more cups so if you pour one glass of soda it is like 2 servings. When i realized this i started measuring my usual food in a normal measuring cup for cooking. The point of this isnt to stick to a strict meal plan, but to get you used to how much food you are actually supposed to eat. It gives you a second to think before you go for a second serving too :)

i eat a big breakfast almost everyday. Nothing special just cereal (1/2 of cereal and 1/2 of milk i never have a full bowl since measuring everything) or one slice of toast with butter, i'll put peanut butter on it too if im doing a really lengthy workout :) the point of a big breakfast is to keep you full and stabalize your blood sugar. Eggs are perfect for this purpose.

I try to keep lunch and dinner small but it depends on how much im working out and also my job is very physical :/ dont deprive yourself, i have eaten 2,000+ calories a day for weeks and still lost weight just because i was sooooo busy. This might not be the case for everyone, im just trying to say dont get caught up in thinking "i must follow this diet and set amount of calories or else i'll fail" lol its not life or death :) either way, eating lighter as the day goes on really helps burn the weight off and is sooooo much healthier for ur digestive system and sleep.

As far as Atkins i honestly dont know much about it but if you stick to any diet it WILL work you just have to be consistent and optimistic. If you are eating a lot of protein it would be a perfect time to start a strength training routine. Women gain muscle easier on the lower half so all you have to do is power walk, squats, lunges, etc no weights required. When you have developed some extra muscle your body will burn calories at a higher rate.  I forgot the exact science behind it, but ppl who have more muscle burn more calories.

When i was 300 lbs and completely inactive i started walking to school (i was 15 at the time). I lost 30 lbs in a month just from the huge shift in activity. Walking is the only regular exercise i did while losing weight. I walked very fast (almost 5 mph) and uphill. Some days i walked around a small mountain that is like 5 miles up and down maybe more. I just hate running and my joints cant take it :( 2 years ago i started dancing and i still do it everday. Just find something you love and go do it!!!

And research as much as you can. Pick up a book on Atkins so you can read it every now and then its so much easier to learn when you have the info right in front of you :) i had read many diet books and websites before finding what worked for me. I wish i knew more about Atkins but i would say give it a try! If the food plans sound good and will keep your cravings down thats what is most important. Dont get stuck on a diet you hate and end up having out of control binge days. Listen to your body and eat foods you will feel good about :)

Sorry for the huge post but i feel this information is sooooo important and i just want to pass it on and help other ladies :-)

Thanks Babygurl for all the information...You are right I need to find something I can stick with...so the search continues.  Atkins scares me for the fact that you can slowly incorporate the carbs back and ego I feel I will just return.  Not sure if this will be the case, since you inform me that the most important part is portion control. I just need to get started again.....Cry
Thanks Again...
