Topic: HELP...I have BUCKLE/BUMP in my twist. Posted: Oct 28 2011 at 10:32am |
Hey Divas! I am back in protection mode with my twists and i have a problem I hope someone can help me with. I am twisting with afro kinky hair by Beauti Collection or Femi (I cant remember...tossed the bag) At any rate, I noticed after twisting that there is a buckle that appears in the twist...it would happen anywhere along the length of the twist. I would have beautifully shaped rope-like twists then BAM this buckle appears...i'm like...huh? Here is a pic...it's the 2nd twist from the right. BTW, I'm switching out the afro puffy twists I currently have in (further to the left) so ignore those. How do I keep this buckling/bump from happening??? (edited to correct typos...typing too fast)

At first I didn't know what you were talking about, but then I saw the picture.
This happens to me sometimes too with my twists.
You just have to make sure that the same tension is being applied as you get farther downwards, and making sure you twist in the same direction (Don't jerk your hand upwards/backwards or some other weird way). It looks like you loosened up as you got farther down.
I think applying a light spray (If you aren't already) beforehand could make it sleeker and prevent the buckling too.
HTH.

Okay when you start your twist make sure you have 2 even pieces of extension hair. As you twist you do not want to borrow hair from the other side. Also you can do a twist within a twist. As you twist the hair, with your thumb and index finger twist the hair, before you twist the hair. So cross the hair, twist with index/thumb, then twist the hair together all the way down. This is really hair to explain. If you go on youtube, Blackonyx has a video on it. But the most important thing is to not borrow hair, and to start with two fully even pieces of hair.
And in some cases it is the hair that causes this. I have been doing extension twist since the eighties, so I have twisted with just about every hair there is, lol. Hope this helps.

She knows her stuff. I usually borrow hair from the other side when this buckling happens.

Oh..
I may have been misleading. I twist on my hair. I haven't tried extensions yet. But, I was just thinking the same concept applied. Because that happens sometimes with my hair too..

] Hi! OK...I was going to start was 2 even pieces and started like this... but, before I attached the hair I looked at it and decided i wanted the twist longer, so I started it off center like this... and attached it so that 2 strands are the twist hair and 1 strand is my hair section. I dont know how to feed in more hair to get more length for twists...I only know how to do that for braids and cornrows. I started off as a short braid then started twisting. I used some Miss J baby butter cream to moisturize and twist with...works great! I did end up borrowing hair towards the end because the hair got thin. OK, so I will try what you suggested including the twist btwn fingers and twist the strands and see if I can work that! Thanks for your help!!!!!
