I have brown hair with natural highlights and when I try to put on some hair dye  it doesnt really show up and I've already used hot pink and it didnt really show up.. 
Is there any hair dye that would work for dark hair?

Try Garnier Color Naturals Burgundy Brown and after then lighter shades.

I've tried peroxide (with a bit of water)  baking soda and honey. I put coconut oil in before applying to prevent drying! Cheers
