Ok so I am natural right now. What I want to do is press my hair then flat iron so that it will look like its "permed" but actually be natural. I've decided I wanted to do this, or something like this, because to tell you the truth I really don't look at ALL with natural afro hair, trust me. hahaha Anyway I was wondering if this would be the right way to go to attain "perm-like" hair with it natural. If not please can you tell me another way I can do it? And also how many times a week/month/year  I should do it. Also how to protect it from shrinking back up and stuff etc. just GO NUTS with info please. hahahaa one more thing, I want to grow my hair out  right now, but its in sew in weave. Right now Ive been putting Mane&Tame deep moisturizer on the roots of my hair and have been putting a showercap then a scarf on it at night. I hair leave for college in approx. 7 months and that is when I plan on starting the pressing/flat iron thing. Can you also tell me ways to help grow my faster. Right now it is at my collarbone. THANKS!!SmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

each head is different and there will be trial and error. like for me i need some kinda creme or grease to flat iron my hair with. some can flat iron with hardly any product and it looks great. me i need more than just heat protectants. ive used grease in the past and retained great length flat ironing every 2 weeks and then i tried to only flat iron with natural oils and my hair literally fried (bad). some can use natural oils and be fine. i am now using ultra sheen satin creme press and i really like it. i apply a dab on each piece then flat iron!

i wll name some key things u will need if u want to be someone who flat irons frequently which is atleast 1-2 times per month. some do it weekly but again u have to see what works for your hair.

1. ALWAYS flat iron hair on a freshly shampooed head!
2. DEEP CONDITION atleast once a month, possibly every wash
3. detangle (with a leave in) with a wide tooth comb and denman brush
4. u can air dry but i get a better flat iron when i blow dry my hair.
5. apply heat protectants prior to heat which means before blow drying or flat ironing (if u air dry)
6. use natural oils for maintenance. some need to moisturize lightly then seal 1-2 times a week or between washes. some can just use natural oils daily and skip moisturizing between washes. sometimes the deep condition is enough moisture to last til next wash.

my routine...
wash
deep condition and rinse
detangle w/ 2 leave ins mixed together
apply 2 heat protectants mixed together.
seal lightly with oil sheen
blow dry
add a little more oil sheen
and proceed to flat iron with a pressing creme and a dab of beeswax on my ends.
i wrap my hair every night and my hair doesnt really revert. summer time is a bit harder but after a week i just wear head bands and put into clips, buns etc

ive tried different products and what not but i always go back to some form of a grease/creme product to flat iron. otherwise my hair will not be silky.

so again just read posts in the natural section and hair growth section and just experiment until you find what works for you!
