So, flat ironing once a week after a blow-dry. Is this too much?

Yes heat applied to your hair daily will destroy your hair. That's just too much.

I'm going to say NO, flat ironing/pressnig will not permanently change your curl pattern.
If you've properly protected your hair prior to heat usage, heat damage shouldn't be an issue. I'm natural and have had my hair professionally pressed on and off since I was a child. I had it wash/conditioned/pressed every 3 weeks, and my natural curl pattern has not been negatively affected. Everytime my hair is washed, my natural curls return.

My question is Does flatironing permanently alter natural hair if flat ironed daily?

That will definitely cause some damage to your hair. You should never use heat daily, that's just not a smart decision.

If you're flatironing daily on the highest setting, eventually you will have heat damage - no matter how much heat protectant you use. If you only want to wear your hair straight or in roller set/curling iron styles then this isn't an issue - except excessive heat can cause breakage. But if you want to go back to rocking your natural texture, you're going to find that the curl pattern will be looser if not non-existant because of the constant flatiron usage.
I used to think that I had to have a flatiron on the highest setting to get my hair straight, but what I ended up with over the years was hair that was so straight that it was limp. It would hold a curl, but it didn't have a ton of body to it. Now that I'm older, and wiser, I usually don't go past 360 and just do one pass. But typically I bantu knot my hair with a silk serum between flatironing sessions (one time per 2 weeks if I'm wearing my hair straighter) so that I'm not relying on heat as much.
My suggestion...if you're going to flatiron daily, find the lowest setting you can put the iron on and still achieve straight hair. You might find that you don't need to use the highest setting if you're flatironing properly with a paddle brush.

I did have a "professional" use too much heat in one spot of my head and now it 's bone straight (heat damage). When I do my own hair I usually never go over 400 deg.
Instead of flat ironing daily, just wrap your hair up @ night...I only flat iron every 2 weeks and it lasts but everybody's hair/ scalp is different.

Yup. But the front of many people's hair just naturally has a looser texture. I know if I do a center part, that particular area of my head is just wavy as compared to the rest of my hair. Did you notice a looser texture there before you started flat ironed your hair?
