Hi ladies, I'm a guy and I'm new here. My hair is usually very short because I always get a haircut before it grows out. My hair texture is very silky. I usually can't get waves because my hair is just too smooth for it. Lately I've been wanting an afro but usually when I have an afro my hair is no longer silky and it really doesn't look as nice as it does when I have a fresh haircut. However, if I grow out an afro but straighten it I think it would look really nice. I've been looking all over the web for how a mixed guy (I'm black and Hispanic) can straighten his hair but I cannot find much on that.  However I did read about "Dax Pressing Oil" and Using a "Hot Comb" to straighten it.

Can any of you ladies give me any advice/instructions on this? Would I like shampoo my hair, use the pressing oil and then use the Hot comb after? And how often would I need to straighten it? Or maybe you guys might have a totally different set of instructions please just let me know. Muchas Gracias Smile

PS- I'm trying to avoid Perms and those kind of things...

My mom use to use this on me when I was younger when pressing my hair. My hair use to break a lot until using the pressing oil. Then it started to stop a lot. I was so happy.

Leave your hair alone, rock it with your haircut. Smile  If you decide to press it you'll probably have to every 2 weeks, maybe a touch up incase it tries to revert. Pressing and flat ironing over long periods of time can cause heat damage. But then again use good quality products. Shampoo, condition, deep condition, dry. Use a heat protectant, use your pressing oil, section into small pieces and flat iron. A pressing comb can be intimidating especially if you try to use the stove. Some people have the electric ones but I never found one that the teeth were close enough. Flat iron each piece until finished. Dudleys pressing creme is good. Ultra Sheen has one. You want a good one but still not one that will weigh your hair down. But after all this, if you want an Afro you probably shouldn't press it anyway. Did you look on YouTube? I'll see if I can find something for you too. TTYL

Thank you so much for your input, ladies. I would stay with the haircut but I want a new look lolz. My Hotcomb just came in the mail today and it's the "Andis High Heat 38300" which has great reviews. So hopefully, I get good results from it. I'll keep you guys updated Smile thanx once again.

Hey Ladies, just a quick update. My Hotcomb works great, I only use it once in a while but everytime I do my hair ends up looking really dark, shiny, and straight :)
